Read on to find out more about REGEN-COV, as well as who and who may qualify for treatment under the FDA guidelines.

What is REGEN-COV?

REGEN-COV is a monoclonal antibody cocktail produced by the companies Regeneron and Roche. It is used to treat patients suffering with symptoms of an active COVID-19 infection who are at high risk of developing complications from the virus.

A recent press release by Regeneron stated that a Phase 3 Trial in the use of REGEN-COV has shown reductions in hospitalizations by 70% among high-risk, non-hospitalized patients. The same study showed that treatment using REGEN-COV reduced symptoms of coronavirus by 4 days.

The drug REGEN-COV is composed of two medicines called casirimivab and imdevimab, given together within 10 days of the onset of COVID-19 symptoms. This drug was granted emergency approval for use by the FDA. Standard dosing of REGEN-COV amounts to 1,200 mg of casirimivab and 1,200 mg of imdevimab. In Phase 2, lower amounts of the drug were tested and results similar to Phase 3 were seen.

The drug is not currently approved for use in patients who are already hospitalized from COVID-19. Further information can be found on the FDA fact sheet for REGEN-COV.
